Willie Dempster was the best slow bowler at the club for many years after the 2nd World War.(See Wicket Takers)
He was also the groundsman and was instrumental in developing the field into the top pitch that we use today.
As a result of his time working at the ground the North Down side was banned from the 1962 Senior Challenge Cup for playing him as he was deemed a 'Professional' by the Union.
The 'Spin King' as he was affectionately known has two sons, Geoffrey and Ivan, and both played significant roles as members of the 1st and 2nd XIs respectively.
