SECONDS MISS OUT ON PLATE FINAL

Sunday 8 August 2010

DONEMANA TOO STRONG

A genuine North Down 2nd XI struggled against a strong Donemana side in this semi final encounter.

J Britton top scored with 68 and it was his 2nd wicket partnership of 92 with D Olphert that provided the base for a big score.

Andy McBrine scored 35 and but for a latter order collapse the Donemana total would have been much greater.

Only skipper Billy Adams kept his runs per over below 4 and although Ryan Galway picked up 4 wickets, there were expensive as his 6 overs went for 55.

Chasing 222 was never going to be easy and when quick scoring Nathan Burns was run out, the task was even greater.

Tim Simmonite showed his usual composure at the wicket with 6 boundaries in his 33 runs, but his colleagues departed around him and when he was dismissed in the 29th over the game was out of reach. He had added 48 in partnership with Gary Patterson, the home sides only glimmer of hope in their batting response.

R McBrine took 5 wickets for 25 and the North Down middle order collapsed in a disappointing manner.

The seconds now look to secure their position in Div 2 Sect 1 for next season.
