 GREAT WIN AT THE LAWN
Sunday 15 August 2010 BOWLERS TIGHTEN THE SCREW. See RESULTS Section and LEAGUE TABLE for details
It was supposed to be a thriller at the sun soaked Lawn today in this 20 over bash. Waringstown won the toss and batted without conviction leaving many to conclude that there were demons in the wicket.
In fact it was a combination of inept batting and a good bowling performance from the visitors.
It started with 9 coming from Gavin McKenna's first over setting the scene , one would have thought, for a total in excess of 150. But Gavin' next 3 overs cost a mere 13.
Marty Moreland was quickly into the attack and quickly into the wickets and he accounted for key player Kyle McCallan, reverse sweeping. It was one of a number of close lbw decisions during the day, all contentious to those around the ground and the batsmen in question. Some things never change!
It wasn't a day for Waringstown batsmen to find the boundary, only four being struck in the 20 overs and opener James Hall, a promising International cricketer, spent 15 overs in the middle for 29 runs.
McKenna had recovered from that first over and Daniel Harding, Marty Moreland and Ryan Haire each went for only 14 runs off their allotted 4 overs.
Taimur Khan's figures of 1 for 22 were also more than acceptable.
90 was the victory target and Neil Russell and Andrew Sutherland set about the task with efficiency, Russell taking the game to the opposition and Sutherland playing more sedately. They pushed the score to 49 before Russell was caught by Simon Harrison on the boundary.
Ryan Haire flicked a four to leg and was soon afterwards adjudged lbw. Sutherland fell 10 runs later and Terrett 2 runs after that.
It was left to Taimur Khan and Peter Shields to see the game won with Taimur in command.
