MORELAND AND KHAN STAR IN GREAT TEAM PERFORMANCE. See RESULTS , LEAGUE TABLE AND FINAL 1st XI TEAM STATS

North Down won the toss and batted and got off to a good start with Neil Russell and Andrew Sutherland adding 80 for the first wicket, that of Russell caught on the long off boundary by Craig McMillan for 42 that included two memorable sixes.

Rain came with the total on 107 for 1, but after the lengthy delay and the reduction of the game to a 38 over match, Sutherland was smartly stumped by Barry Cooper for 35. Ryan Haire and Taimur Khan added 23 before Haire was bowled making room for a big shot and Peter Shields joined Khan.

Khan and Shields added 69 with the latter rotating the strike and Khan playing at his brilliant best. He hit 7 sixes and 5 fours in a blistering attack on the CIYMS bowlers and his 80 was instrumental in setting a formidable target for the home side. The Duckworth/Lewis formula added to their discomfort by adding another 20 runs to the 233 total, for overs lost during rain, setting CI the target of 254 to win in 38 overs.

Gavin McKenna and Daniel Harding made their task even more difficult with three wickets in a devastating first 7 overs. Neil Gelston was caught by Ryan Haire in the gully without scoring, Harding bowled Barry Cooper for 7 and wicket keeper Shields took a good one handed catch to dismiss Ben McCord for 6.

Enter Craig McMillan and with Derek Heasley the pair put on 49 before Marty Moreland trapped Heasley leg before for 22.  It was a huge wicket and 'opened one end' while McMillan caused havoc at the other.  He had taken 16 off Moreland's first over.  Moreland caught and bowled Michael Hingston (22), bowled Hunter (0) and then took the defining wicket of the day. Craig McMillan, according to the bowler, 'tried to hit the ball to Comber' but he only succeeded in hitting an enormous skier off the full toss to the hands of Kieran Donnelly at deep mid-wicket.  Donnelly held on to the delight of the boundary supporters and the game's pendulum swung seriously in favour of North Down.

Two more Moreland wickets gave him the remarkable figures of 6 for 37, but it was fitting that Daniel Harding, the club's top wicket taker this season, took the final wicket to ensure that the Premier League trophy was on its way to The Green.

Thus the finale of the hardest season in a decade was played out at Belmont when two sides defied the weather to bring their seasons to a close.

The aspirations and goals for the season were realised at Belmont today.

The tremendous strength in depth under a shrewd and experienced Captain with the guidance and driving force of a good Coach has kept North Down at the top of NCU cricket.

Ryan Haire finished the season with a temendous 1295 runs - the top amateur in the history of the club since limited overs were introduced in 1966.  It is the third time that Ryan has reached that illustrious target.

Andrew Sutherland has become the latest member of the '1000' club with 1098 runs, making him the second highest amateur player in the club's history.

Obviously you've never seen a slow, swinging, dipping full toss Craig
