CLEAR AT THE TOP
North Down stayed as early pacemakers in the Premier League with an emphatic 53 run win against rejuvenated Muckamore.
Put in to bat by the visitors looked to have been a good decision when first Danny Graham and the in form Ali Shields had departed with the score on 21.
Enter Nathan Burns and Ruan Pretorius with a fine 121 run partnership that set the foundation for a 274 run total. Burns had a day to remember, scoring a brilliant 98 and a day to forget with the landmark century missed.
The departure of Pretorius for a fine 67 brought Peter Eakin to the wicket and after a rightly cautious start, played an innings of typical inventiveness and great timing.
He scored 79 off 71 balls.(pictured)
The home side had posted a total above par but not so far above as to be in any way complacent.

Pretorius bowled Drummond with 14 on the board but it was 71 runs later before Jay Hunter caught Jamie Magowan off Peter Davison's bowling.
The major threat arrived with professional Rapulana joining Iftikar Hussain.  Two runs later a brilliant piece of fielding from Pretorius was too sharp for the diving Rapulana who was run out without scoring.
Hussain was in dominant form and was now joined by Ryan Haire, a daunting prospect for those who have witnessed Haire, in North Down colours over the years.
A destroyer of bowling attacks and a many times match winner at The Green, he and Hussain added a threatening 69 before Peter Eakin struck.
He had the established HUssain caught by Peter Davison at long off and wicket keeper Jay Hunter took a catch behind to dismiss Haire and turn the game on its head.
Muckamore's resistance collapsed and they finished welll short of their target.
