Hanging in There

A  tense encounter at The Green was wound up by Neil Russell who landed a James Hall delivery on to the top ground. But it required Russell, batting in an unfamiliar position to find the maximum for the second time to bring home the points.

North Down had batted into a comfortable 100 for 3 chasing 177, with Andrew Sutherland and Jonny Terrett adding 70 for the 1st wicket. The opening berth could have been secured by Terrett who looked at ease in this role.

Terrett was bowled, Sutherland caught behind and Ryan Haire bowled sweeping and the latter wicket created unease with the home support and uplift in the visiting team and Lee Nelson, acting captain in Kyle McCallan's absense, sensed a possible win.

Two questionable lbw decisions, both possibly too high and one off the bat opened up the game but Waringstown's 177 was 20 runs short (A Haire 2 for 11, P Eakin 2 for 14) and Russell unbeaten on 25 saw the home side over the finishing line opening up the league race again. (See LEAGUE TABLES)
