NORTH DOWN BOYS PERFORM WELL

Wednesday 2 July 2008

Mixed fortunes for NCU as North Down boys do well

It was a mixed week for the 2 North Down representatives, Scott Irvine and Alex Malcolm-Bourne, at the u15 interpros this week.
A last minute change of venue for the first match against NWCU on Monday saw the boys head to Larne. Both Scott and Alex were the unlucky 2 out of the squad of 13 who were rested for this match. The match itself saw a strong North West side post 180 in their 45 overs but NCU could only reply with 134. The loss of early cheap wickets meant that they were always struggling and eventually were all out in the 35th over.
Tuesday's match against Munster was at Carrick but the rain that came down for the most of the morning meant that the game was eventually abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Alex Malcolm-Bourne and Scott Irvine in 47 run stand

Due to the incomplete North Down vs Instonians Challenge Cup quarter final, the venue for the final match against Leinster also had to be changed from Shaw's Bridge to Saintfield. Alex and Scott were both included in the NCU team for this match. Put in to bat LCU scored 179 in their 45 overs with Alex taking a remarkable 4 catches. Again NCU lost early wickets and when Scott joined Alex at the crease the score was 52 for 4. The pair batted sensibly and well and took the score up to 99 before Alex was trapped LBW for 34. Scott was out c&b shortly afterwards for 23 and the team were eventually bowled out in the final over for 145.
With the 2 top scores of the innings both North Down boys played their part in what was a disappointing finish to the interpro series for NCU. North West won the series by virtue of a faster run rate.
