Ian played for Regent House and Ulster Schools and played his first game in the Senior team at 'The Green' in 1963. During his early days at 'The Green' he was sent to Lords for a week's coaching by 'The Dodger'.  All expenses paid and reported to Ardara on the outcome.

Ian has captained the side to a Senior Challenge Cup Final losing heavily to Waringstown in 1975 and to an Irish Cup Final in 1985 losing heavily to Downpatrick in appalling conditions.


He led the side back into Section 1 in 1973 but back to Section to in 1975.

 He played for Ulster Country and when formed, Ulster Town and was on Inter Pro winning Guinness Cup sides.
