UNDER 11 (20th July 2007)
The Under 11 side recorded another convincing win against Bangor last Tuesday at the Green in a low scoring 15 over match. Bowling first Northdown the pace trio of Mc Ivor ,Mc Caughey and Adams blew away the Bangor top order with McCaughey grabbing one victim as both Adams and McIvor netted two a piece. The trios accuracy along with that of Hamilton, McKibbin and Anderson restricted the visitors to 48 in 15 overs a total which was chased down without the loss of a single wicket. Hamilton and Mc Ivor remained undefeated on 22 and 15 respectively as they reached their target in only 9 overs.
Under 13 v CSNI
In similar fashion the talented Under 13 side led by Alistair Shields again triumphed over CSNI at Stormont. Possibly inspired by the nearby practicing South Africans and Indians the top order for North Down milked the bowling attack resulting in a score of 134 in 20 overs with a number of retirements enforced throughout the innings. Irvine and Malcolm-Bourne as opening pair again played confidently scoring 21 and 26 respectively before both trying to really push on and getting out in quick succession. Shields and Adams then kept the scoring up with Shields in particular looking comfortable throughout whilst striking a good 27 before retiring. Adams with 14 retired batted well with the other middle order batsmen Dugan , Irwin and Knaggs.
In reponse CSNI could only manage 75 with all ten fields turning the arm over at some stage. Mc Ivor and Hamilton opened the bowling and bowled tightly whilst Irwin Knaggs and Adams also bowled with accuracy. The big three of Irvine, Shileds and Malcolm Bourne mopping up the tail. Irvine in particular bowled with true pace and Mayne in wickets showed good potential with a number of diving stops.
Exit from Banoge Cup
The North Down under 13 team were beaten in an exciting Banoge Cup game against Instonians at The Green on Friday evening..
The visitors batted first and scored 105 for 5 after their allotted 20 overs with S Russell taking 3 wickets and W Mayne and K Adams 1wicket each. B Wylie top scored for Inst with 36.
The excellent opening partnership between Tom Livingstione (18) and William Mayne (44) gave hope of a win, but wickets fell regularly after Livingstone's departure and although Mayne batted very well for his 44, when he was caught the team ran out of time and fell 3 runs short. A great effort but it is Instonians who progress to the 2nd Round.
